The Natural Disasters - Essay ExampleThese two cases were of great significance to the governments of both nations and hence elicited responses as they occurred. The earthquake that took place in Italy provoked the government to declare a state of emergency and it dedicated all its attention towards the earthquake and the effect it had on the general Italian populace e.g. the prime minister of Italy, Silvio Berlusconi decided to cancel an official visit to Russia in order to pay a visit to and survey the area that had been hit by the earthquake. Such a declaration was not made in China. Relevant government officials undertook an assessment of the area and immediately got into guiding their efforts towards combating the effects of the disaster and looked into disaster preparedness. It has been recorded that Italy had been warned of the earthquake by a seismologist but the government had decided to ignore it and decided not to act on it. China embarked on the mass disposal of the bodi es and influenced the DNA tests that were meant to assist with the identification of the bodies yet Italys engagement in this is unknown. Gambling in Cyberspace the Ethical Dilemma Essay
Gambling in Cyberspace the Ethical Dilemma - essay ExampleWith the technological advancements, it has become increasingly important to understand ethics related to this phenomenon such as concerning privacy and security issues (Lim, 2007). Online bid has emerged as unrivalled of the most debated issues when the ethics of information technology is discussed. This can be attributed to the fact that gaming industry has started to sweep across the American nation, and as such, a bombardment of ethical issues has been in tandem with it (Ho?rnle and Zammit, 2010). This paper will discuss the ethical dilemma of gambling in cyberspace. Introduction Online gambling is officially considered to remove started on 18 August 1995 when Internet Casinos Inc. put the first virtual casino upon the internet. This site offered 18 different online gambling games. The online gambling industry gained prominence and in less than four years, it had exploded. It is estimated that in 1996 alone, about $ 1.2 million had been wagered online. It was estimated that this amount had increased to $10 billion annually by 2000 (Dunnington, 2003). Online gambling has grown over the years to flip an effect on many people and spheres of the American society. For example, a number of states in recent years have taken it upon themselves in implementing commercialized casinos in order to generate takes, as well as provide monetary relief for state governments facing budget deficits. It has however been observed that gambling has led to addiction thus raising ethical issues in the society (Spapens, Littler and Fijnaut, 2008). It is argued that it has led to increase in crime, as well as hearty and psychological problems associated directly with losing. Nonetheless, from an economic point of view, online gambling help to create jobs and generate taxes for state governments. It is estimated that gambling industry influences about one million atomic number 18 directly or indirectly. As such, whil e it presents some ethical issues, there are economic benefits to justify it. It is because of this reason that there has been ethical dilemma regarding gambling, and more particularly about online gaming (Gainsbury, 2012). Primarily, there are two main standpoints for the ethical dilemma of gambling in cyberspace the arguments against online gambling and arguments made for online gambling. The opponents of online gaming argue that it further confuses the legality issue, as it blurs the line between illegal and legal gambling. Different states have varying position on gambling and whence confusion reigns from one state to a nonher on varying extent (Ho?rnle and Zammit, 2010). According to available data, 48 states have certain forms of legalized gambling such as casino games, racetracks, and lotteries. However, they lack or have little consistency in gambling laws. Some states have outlawed casino gambling but have made them legal based on reservations. The critics of online gambl ing further argue that it breeds addiction. In some cases, online gaming has been criticized of giving access to millions of people who would otherwise not have access to such amount of money. Therefore, it has led the society to have more gamblers and so more addicts of gambling (Harrison, 2000). The consequence of this has been that some people have even sacrificed their homes and jobs over the need of paying off gambling debts. This has caused depression and stress on the affected individuals

According to Lane(1963)the compass artifice stimulated trade whereby there was an extend in the number of commercial sea voyages and also the possibility of navigation in all the months of the year. Before the invention of the magnetic compass sailors depended on the sun and other outer space bodies to navigate, this means that it was relatively impossible to locate direction during the winter months and when it was dark, foggy and rainy. However sailors would know directions by observing land marks and therefore travele d near the sight of land.Lane (1963) discuses the economic impact of the magnetic compass invention, one of notable impact of the invention is that Mediterranean sailors traveled in the months of October and April, the compass led to an increase in sea travel months and voyages were possible for the months February to December. The compass was also used in the dig industry, the compass in this industry was used to guide miners through the underground tunnels constructed, and

Are virtual organisations Multinational Enterprises (MNE) Assignment
Are virtual organisations Multinational Enterprises (MNE) - Assignment Example consort to Preston (n.d), there are four key characteristics of virtual organizations as a process. Virtual organisations involve developing relationships with a wide range of partners each having a core competence that complements the others. It capitalises on the ability of telecommunications technology to overcome distance and time related problems. Furthermore, it involves trust between parties. Virtual organisations are also prompt by specific opportunities. As soon as these opportunities are exploited endeavours move on to form new partnerships and alliances. 2.0 Description of MNEs A multinational enterprise (MNE) or corporation (MNC) is an entity that operates in more than one tax jurisdiction whether as a single tax payer entity or as a group of such entities (Fernandez and Pope 2002). MNEs have their headquarters in one province (the parent/home country) and operate subsidiaries in several ot her countries know as host countries. There are a number of enterprises worldwide that operate in this way. MNEs continue to grow and expand their operations because of WTO trade rules which aid globalisation as well as the growth of electronic commerce and information technology. Some MNEs have budgets that are larger than some countries and this indicates the extent of their military unit and influence as it relates to the setting of trade rules and regulations by international bodies. Multinational enterprises have many dimensions to them and can be viewed from several perspectives. These dimensions include and are non limited to management, ownership, strategy and structure. In terms of ownership, it may be argued that an enterprise is multinational if it is owned by nationals of more than one country. Companies that fit this particular measuring rod include Shell and Unilever which is owned by both British and Dutch interests. Many multinational enterprises do not meet this test as close to of them originated in one country. In terms of the management criterion the managers are from different nationalities according to the countries in which they operate. However, as a starting point almost multinational enterprises use persons from their home country to lead the management team in the initial stages of their operations in host countries. In terms of strategy, multinational enterprises seek to maximise their profits globally by entering new markets. The structure of these companies is such that the head office which is located in the home country controls the operations of the subsidiaries and assists in the direction and coordination of their activities. According to Moran (2007) MNE investments in the developing world occurs in four distinct forms. They are Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in extractive industries, FDI in infrastructure, FDI in manufacturing and assembly, and FDI in services. However, multinationals operate in not just developing c ountries but also developed countries. In addition to FDIs they also furnish licenses and management agreements in the fast food and hotel sectors. Therefore, FDI and licensing are the two ways in which MNEs

Routing Protocols Of Cisco Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Routing Protocols Of Cisco - Essay Example2.2 Static RoutingMeehan says that static routing is the manual addition of routers into the routing board. As such, there is no communication among routers in static routing. As a result, the system administrator enters the fixed or static paths manually into the router without the routers sharing knowledge on the internet topology.2.3 Dynamic routing Dynamic routing, which is also called adaptive routing, describes a computer network in which routers are able to alter their route or path depending on the changes in the conditions of communication circuits. For instance, a router is able to adjust to failing lines or overloads in traffic.Static routing is not a form of routing protocol because it is a manual procedure. On the other hand, dynamic routing uses protocols, which are usually supported by various software applications. Through the protocols, which define the path of routers, dynamic routers provide knowledge on various destinatio ns. In static routing, the paths to be followed by routers are hard-coded on network devices as demonstrated by Meehan. This means that the direction of traffic is fixed. In dynamic routing, routing protocols are used in the determination of the most appropriate path to send traffic. If a specific path is not preferred, a diametrical route is used in sending data packets. OSPF and EIGRP are examples of protocols used in dynamic routing.Static routing is applicable in computer networks when the number of devices to be tack together is very few.

HR Issues in the Organisations Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
HR Issues in the Organisations - Essay ExampleSuch a degree of centralisation is leading to employees frustration and disengagement (Vosburgh, 2007). on that point is a totally flawed reward system (Secord, 2003) working in the organisation, which again is designed by the ministry of defence. This design is not pragmatic (Pilbeam, S. & Corbridge, 2010) when it comes to dealing with civilian workers. Apparently, most of the work in these organisations is done in teams, but the reward system in place is not suited to this form of working. Moreover, this type of a reward system is anti teamwork and leads to a rift created between employees (Ulrich & Smallwood, 2005). With employees not receiving their deserved recognition and line mangers being helpless in this regard, organisational motivation is fall exponentially (Yeung & Brockbank, 1994). This entire problem is being caused by the Cluster Panel, which is totally callous to the working environment and is responsible for making appr aisal decisions. The base has a defective method in place to assess an employee. The entire appraisal system (Yeung, Woolcock, & Sullivan, 1996) is dependent upon the line jitneys recommendation of an employee and that similarly is further conditional on his writing effectiveness. Even if a manager effectively encodes an employees accomplishment on the appraisal form, there is still no guarantee that this would secure an appraisal for the employee. This deficiency has two folded repercussions, one has to do with the line managers motivation level and the other has to do with an employees alienation with the organisational procedures (Newman & Hodgetts, 1998). One aspect that needs special attention over here is that of the military staff. Since they form a part of the total workforce of these organisations, they deserve to be treated like any other employee. On the contrary they are considered as alien to the organisational setting when they receive their compensation from the de fence ministry. This classification of handling of the military personals is leading to a confusion arising in their midst with regards to their role, both in the military and in these organisations. Another important draw acantha in these organisations has to do with the absence of a motivator. Since employees consider performance bonuses as some sort of a lottery rather than a form of recognition, and managers acclamations as shallow, there exists a serious deficiency of a driving force (Miner & Crane, 1995). In these organisations mangers are the ones who are occupying the most pitiful position. They come no power what so every to express their viewpoint. They are mere spectators who are just watching the show, having no power what so ever to hold influence on any level of the bureaucracy (Losey, Mesinger, & Ulrich, 2005). Recommendations for Changes In these circumstances in which the employees are feeling totally dejected with the organisational procedures, and mangers rath er than being inspirational are showing a sorry picture it is important to come up with more effective Human Resource policies (Kramar, Mcgrew, & Schuler, 1997). It is inevitable that organisational productivity bequeath fall and the purpose for which these organisations are in place will suffer a deep blow. In order to prevent such damaging consequences, dislodge management needs to be implemented on an emergency basis. In this change management program,

Asian American and Asian communities in U.S Essay
Asiatic American and Asian communities in U.S - Essay ExampleOne of the very important reasons is that of something called as Asian p atomic number 18nts Syndrome (Online Education Articles, n.p). It has been an observation that Asian parents generally have higher expectations of their children. It is because of these expectations that many college students feel the need to achieve greater success. Asian parents cannot simply compromise that their children are not the best among everyone, and therefore, this drives the children to be given harder (Online Education Articles, n.p). Asian culture and its expectations therefore enable the Asian students to work harder. Another factor, which plays a very important role, is that of enatic expectations of children. The study conducted by Stevenson group was based on Japanese and American students and mothers. When children did not per multifariousness well in school, almost 42 percent of American mothers were satisfied with their childs performance. Contrary to that, only five percent of Japanese mothers rated the performance to be satisfactory. American mothers were also willing to accept a childs low performance. Therefore, the study concluded that such American attitudes provided an excuse for the children for not working very hard. Such attitudes continue throughout life, therefore, American students might not perform better in colleges. Asian students are very adaptable to levels of hard work (Wray, pp. 57). Historically, Asian students have been driven to work harder. Educational achievements had become very important, especially in the case of Japanese and Chinese students. A study done by Suzuki in 1977 (Nakanishi & Nishida, pp.140) showed that Asian Americans came to stick to education because they were considered a minority group. This led them to strive harder. During the 1940s, Asians were discriminated by the trade unions. They were refused membership. After the Second World War, there was a need for white-collar employees because of technical advancements. Thus, education became the prime goal for Asian individuals in order to achieve success. In addition, Connor in 1975 gave the explanation that Asian students had been denied in social and extra curricular activities before the First World War. This had emphasized educational values. Therefore, studies have proved that historically, Asian students have had the motive to pursue education with full zeal (Nakanishi & Nishida, pp.140). A study conducted on Japanese students and teachers showed that teachers expected a greater level from their students. They are taught that education is difficult, not always exciting, and it also requires a great measure of hard work. Responsibility and perseverance is also taught. Hence, Japanese students have been socialized to achieve success through education. Therefore, this attitude remains with them throughout life, and therefore when they go to study in colleges in US, they will tend to p erform better. Therefore, values of culture also play a significant role (Wray, pp. 54). Generally, Asian immigrants also have spent more amount of time in school. On average, Asian students in their countries spent an average of 240 days in school per year, era the American students spent around 178 days in school every year. Therefore, this increases the performance of the Asian students (Santrock, pp. 626). Some other cultural reasons, which might also form part of religious values, attempt to explain why Asians generally do better in colleges. There are certain cultural values, which are super C

Essay ExampleA journalist, writer, researcher, or reporter who is shamed of either plagiarism or fabrication betrays that trust because the reading audience relies on the writer, implying that what was written was original, contributed to the discussion, distilled it with his thoughts and ideas, and gave a new insight for the benefit of readers (Seife, 2013, p. 5), and committing plagiarism or fabrication is mortal sins in terms of its professional ethics. However, it must be conceded that any code of ethics has shades of gray (ibid.) and more so in writing as in that respect is no merchantmanonical code for journalists this is because it can boil down to judgment although those who are in the profession know there is a dividing line and when they had crossed it. This is where the normative code of ethics comes in a group of journalists and reporters know they have an explicit code of conduct to surveil and abide by. This particular sector in society has their own peculiar language (lingo) which only members can understand, and this includes a standard when it comes to its professional ethics not to commit plagiarism or fabrication in their stories. It is indeed a tricky minefield on what constitutes plagiarism or not in any case, community know when they have committed it or not. Ethics can be quite subjective in the sense it depends on the times and the context in which the ethical rules currently operate.Rules against plagiarism are quite strict when applied in the academic world. This is the assurance by which professors can objectively evaluate their students otherwise, the students leave not learn and the teaching environment will not be conducive to the whole learning process. In this regard, the cheating scandal at Harvard University can be considered from the viewpoint of the second definition of what constitutes normative in this sense, it means value judgments. Budgets at the Federal, State, Local and Agency Levels - Term Paper ExampleAll of them collect revenue, unremarkably through the form of taxes and make necessary expenditures for the operation of the various departments that comprise their role as provider to the people. With the exception of salaries and other operational expenses, their primary responsibilities are to provide services, programs and funding to various segments of the population. Federal, state, local and agency levels all have their own various programs, offices and duties that contribute to the intricate workings of the matter economy as a whole. They are though each inherently individual decision-making bodies. Thornhill summarizes the most important features of a public budget as follows The budget, after its approval by the legislative authority, is enforceable. The results of most of the objectives to be realized by the budget are not quantifiable. The budget brings together a variety of considerations. As the objectives of action taken by public institution differ widely from those of private organizations, the processes for determining the content of a public budget are therefore unique. Authorities do not always adapt their expenditure to fit their available revenue. (check citation from original Thornbill, 1984) . Budgets at the Federal, State, Local and Agency Levels Faced with the past decade of national deficits, the recession, and other difficult situations, the United States government has had to set forth a plan to reduce debt, cut spending and ontogenesis revenues. In the news as of late because of our enormous debt and the need to raise the debt ceiling or face negative ramifications by defaulting on our loans from the World Bank. Paying higher interest place and a reduced credit rating that would cost the US a substantial amount in interest would also have increased our debt earlier than alleviate it. The government therefore has had to arrive at a budget for the coming year that would substantially cut spending to stave off still economic decline. In efforts to balance the budget, President Obama has focused on reducing military spending by reducing the number of troops in both Afghanistan and Iraq, minimal cuts in other government programs and increasing revenue with more uniform tax rates for all citizens coupled with fewer loop holes for corporations and other businesses. The nations budget is characterized by largely proportionate amounts set forth for areas of prime importance. Memory Boy Essay Essay Example for Free
Memory Boy Essay EssayThe book that I choose to read this 9 week period is called Memory by Will Weaver. The book is based on the withstands of a family of 4 people Miles, Sarah, and their two parents. Memory Boy starts out in the Mid West after a mountain range in W ashington erupts and spews ash what seems billions of feet up, and over the entire United Sates like a blanket. The ash is so thick that people have to wear dust masks outside to avoid the risk of breathing it in. Miles and his family finally decide to leave the town that they live in to head northwest.Since the ash is so heavy they cant drive a car beca employment those are restricted, and people can only use them on certain days to avoid the problem of pollution. So Miles assembles a new vehicle that he calls the Princess. It is a mix between a pedal and a boat that they must pilot by either peddling, or when there is enough wind they have a sail from a boat to put up. They decide to leave under the curtain o f night to avoid being detected by other people who would want to take their vehicle from them.As they make their way North they must face encounters with many obstacles such as road blocks, bandits, hunger, the government, nature, each other, and other hazards. In between presentment us about theyre adventure north, Miles, who is the of import character tells us the events leading up to their departure, starting with the day that the eruption happened. The novel starts out a peaceful journey by the family but they soon accept that their trip pass on not be easy and they must work together to survive.Miles is our main character and we watch all the events happen through his point of view. He would be a junior in high school if they still in truth went to school. Miles is a smart individual who enjoys doing the job of a mechanic. He built the Princess by himself and is the only one who is about to fix and maintain it throughout the book. He takes a strong leadership role even his parents look to him to solve the solutions. When the volcano erupted he was only in the 9th place. So every other chapter he will flashback to his 9th grade year to tell us a story about after the volcano erupted. He often compares his life now to that of his 9th grade year, and how he would have done things different. He used to be disrespectful and would often act out in school to seek attention. He will explain to us how some of the events he tells us about have changed him. Miles sister Sarah is a few years younger than he is. She is a nighted and morbid girl the type that is into vampire, dark music, and dark literature. But even though she seems tough on the outside, but she is actually just hiding how terrified she has been throughout this entire ordeal. She secretly looks up to miles even though she would never say so to him. She doesnt like her father very much because he was always away when she was a child. Miless father was a jazz musician in a band before the eruption . He was always on the road with his band, so he wasnt around much when Miles and Sarah were growing up.Although he seems quite docile at the head start of the book we soon learn that he is actually quite the leader, and when Miles gets overwhelmed his father is always there to take the lead for awhile. Miless mother was the main caretaker of the children so she was always around. At the beginning of the book she kept the family together as a unit, they referred to her as being. The children see their mother as being helpless most of the time. It isnt until later in the book that she really blooms as a character, and becomes a very useful asset to the group.
